Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant support from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
The manager lamented known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase such as this with results like these.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
