Cars in Germany's City Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were alerted by a man who noticed a automobile in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then located multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.

A senior official said the vandalism left him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
