Widely circulated footage appeared to show Jones making an obscene gesture toward opposing supporters, though he insists he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team secured a 37-22 victory.
“It was regrettable. That was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “There was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was brimming with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
Jones additionally emphasized that the signal was entirely accidental, happening amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just showed the incorrect digit,” he remarked. “The action was accidentally done. This is sincere. Should you call it accidental, you can. But it got corrected pretty quick.”

This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been fined for misconduct. Previous cases involve:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at fans in January 2024.
