Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a significant and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is not yet known and the American officials has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," it added.

Officials reported wreckage fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
