Man Who Reached For Ariana Grande during Movie Premiere Barred from Singapore
A man from Australia who vaulted across a fence and touched Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been expelled and banned from Singapore.
The man, aged 26, was handed a penalty to nine days in prison for causing a public disturbance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority stated to Singaporean press.
Wen pushed through camera crews and charged at the actress and singer, who was participating in the Asian debut for the musical adaptation on the thirteenth of November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
He has a background of disrupting concerts and star-studded occasions, including leaping onto the platform at the pop star's Australian show in this summer.
The incident provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with many accusing him of re-traumatising Grande.
The pop star has discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist bombing at her show in Manchester in May 2017 killed 22 individuals and hurt numerous attendees.
During Wen's trial, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the film's premiere multiple times, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a follow-up try to breach security. Event security prevented him and pinned him down.
The man subsequently shared videos appreciating the celebrity for letting him on the carpet and said he was "at liberty."
Police arrested him the subsequent day and accused him with disorderly conduct, to which the man admitted guilt.
The District Judge Christopher Goh was referenced by media reports as stating that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was wrong to believe he would not suffer any consequences.
The actress has not addressed the situation.
Cynthia Erivo spoke about the event to the press, stating that she "just wanted to make sure my colleague was protected."
"I think he had no intention to us injury, but you never know with such situations, and I wanted to ensure that she was OK. That was my immediate response," she commented.
