President Trump Calls Relatives of Shot Guard Personnel to White House
Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Event
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president told the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Attendees assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to aid public safety in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Steps and Government Changes
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event prompted the administration to halt asylum applications and halt granting visas to owners of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” the governor addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
