A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court after March of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has secured 21 victories at 21 various events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, supported by an better serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.

The opponent defended 4 initial chances in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
