The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Celebrated for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."
This news arrives less than a month after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
An Enduring Influence
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in shaping body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her American tour following her marriage.
Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

The industry laments the passing to a true visionary whose legacy on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
