The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
