The Showrunner Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit program wrapping up—and a second season officially in the works—the writers' room recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Viewer Reception

One could easily to get swayed by the rampant praise and fan theories about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by fan response, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to throw out a decent plan for a better idea. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
