Travis Head Sends Support to Ben Duckett Following Social Media Storm
Demonstrating the personal bonds that exist beneath the surface of international cricket, Travis Head has revealed he sent a private message of support to England's Ben Duckett.
The gesture came after Duckett was subjected to a wave of criticism on social media.
Online Video Sparked Controversy
The situation began when unverified video clips appeared on social media.
The footage purportedly showed Duckett, reportedly intoxicated, in a tetchy late-night exchange with a fan.
This took place during the team's mid-series break in Noosa, thrusting the opening batter in an negative spotlight.
Team Officials Commented on Conduct
Earlier that day, England's managing director, Rob Key, had made a statement.
He labeled excessive drinking "totally inappropriate" and confirmed he would be looking into reports from the trip.
“I get along with Ducky well, I reached out to him to see if he was going alright,” Head told reporters.
He made these comments at the MCG following England's quick win in the fourth Test.
An Appeal for Understanding
Head stressed the personal side of the situation. "Everyone is still human. What you do in personal time is up to you."
He noted the public scrutiny of their lives but concluded the reaction was "over the top."
"It was blown out of all proportion," Head added. "I believe it was filmed by an England supporter."
Sharing his perspective, the Australian batter commented, "I don’t think it was any real issue."
He suggested that "When there’s big gaps in Tests, people have got to find something to talk about."
Support from the Captain
Prior to this, England captain Ben Stokes had publicly defended Duckett.
In an emotional press conference before the fourth Test, Stokes asked for "understanding" towards his teammate.
Looking Ahead
On the field, Duckett made 34 important runs in England's successful chase of 175.
After the match, he shared online, stating, "Amazing end to a pretty tough week."
Head expressed hope for more play in the next Test, joking, "Maybe if the game lasts longer, there will be fewer off-field stories."
